Families
Addiction doesn’t just affect individuals it has an enormous impact on families. Around 1.3 million children are affected directly by a family member’s drinking. A recent study by the UK Drug Policy Commission suggests a minimum of 1.5 million people are affected by someone else’s drug use, and other studies have suggested this number is much higher.
ADS (Addiction Dependency Solution) understands that support is needed for families as well as the individual in tackling addiction. Research shows that individuals are more likely to start and complete treatment and sustain their recovery if they are supported by their families. ADS is committed to working with individuals and families and believes all family members should have access to the support they need. This support may take the form of individual support for families and children working alongside the individual and putting together a treatment plan to help them overcome their addiction. In most of our services we have active concerned other groups which provide vital peer support to family members and concerned others.
