Who are we for?

Our core service is commissioned by Cumbria Drug and Alcohol Action Team. It is a free, confidential service to adults who are over the age of 18 who have a problem with drugs or are concerned about somebody else’s drug use. We cover the Barrow and Furness areas and encompass Millom in the North and Ulverston in the East.
People can refer themselves into the service, or may be referred by a variety of health and social care professionals including GPs, the Drug Intervention Programme Team, NHS Team and Probation. This can be done by telephone, letter, referral form or by calling in at Duke Street.
If you are unsure which ADS Centre in Cumbria can support you please feel free to ring us at Barrow and ask.

Service

Structured Day Programme and Care Planned Day Care
ADS in Barrow provide a range of interventions based around the Menu of Options Programme including a comprehensive Assessment and Care Planning process, interactive workshops, one-to-one keywork, complementary therapies (Acupuncture & Black Box) and varied activities with opportunities for other developments based on Service User needs. In addition we work in close partnership in the premises with teams from the NHS, the Drug Intervention Programme and Progress2Work and we also have close links with the Probation Service and Housing Support amongst others.

What happens when we meet?
First of all we will talk to you about what our centre has to offer and all the possibilities for you within the Menu of Options and then you will be offered an assessment. At that appointment you will meet with one of our Day Programme Workers and look at what you want and what your needs are and how the flexibility of the Menu Options can meet your needs. Together, we will help you develop your own Activity Care Plan which will identify how you are going to address your drug and associated problems by setting some goals and by outlining what you need to do in order to achieve them. You will be appointed a key-worker who will support you in fulfilling that plan by providing one-to-one sessions and/or by helping you to access the relevant workshops in the programme. We may also sign-post you to other agencies that may be able to help you around other issues you need to address.
